Leadership development in theory, practice, and philosophy

When I started Recreatio, I got advice on how to package my services and what assignments to look for. I listened but decided to follow my heart and combine assignments within team development and HR (which I considered "safe" as I already knew I was good at it) with the more unchartered territory of developing my leadership development philosophy as well as programs for managers and leaders.

Was that a small task? Nope.

And I’m still on a journey, but quite a few things have become evident to me:

  • The best deliveries have been me in co-creation with the client. The number of questions to explore to find the best solution is often unlimited.
  • Complexity and dependencies increase and affect both teams and leaders. We need to put more time into collaboration and understanding other perspectives. Holding space for reflection is vital.
  • We need a long-term perspective – a sustainable work life and workplace emanate from a healthy organization. Work/life balance is out. Enter work/life harmony.

So, what comes of this?

Every case I co-create with a client is unique, but there are some frameworks and contexts that I keep returning to and want to develop further.

First – I created an innovation hub on the theme of “sustainable work-life” together with Fredrik Hörlyk. We explored the topic with researchers from the University of Gothenburg and several entrepreneurs. We revealed that to be sustainable at work, we don’t just need new and better digital collaboration platforms. We need to improve how we see ourselves and the resources we have, how we think, relate to, and interact with others. Much of our findings align with The Inner Development Goals framework, which has become my toolbox and mindset.

Second – I have experimented with physical context. Research on the effects of exposure to nature is evident. Increased creativity and cognitive ability, a more profound connection with one’s values and feelings, and improved mental health are just a few examples. Nature exposure also diverts decision-making to a more long-term perspective – a strategic benefit in a fast-paced environment. Therefore, I try to invite my clients to another arena than the usual conference room. The most magical things tend to happen outdoors!

They say that no matter whether you are an entrepreneur, intrapreneur, or employee, you start questioning your role, reason, and situation after three to four years. What can the future hold for me? And this post sums up what has grown on me. The past four years with Recreatio have taught me many things, and I see new things I want to explore. Collaborations are in my nature, and one that gives me a lot of energy is all the ongoing projects I have with Siri Wikander. Together we created Beyond Retreat – a leadership development program in the Swedish mountains.

I will soon announce other exciting projects and collaborations – and I’m open to discussions with you and your organization: If you are in the making of a new or updated leadership framework, a development program for employees and leaders, or if you look for input and inspiration for your next strategy meeting, please reach out and let’s co-create the future!

Afterworkshop – a pay it forward initiative!

It takes 10 000 hours to be an expert at something. Or at least so they say. I haven’t counted my hours within Talent Acquisition, Recruitment and Employer Branding, but after about ten years as a consultant within these scopes, I hope I have gained some knowledge – that I’ve found use for at Afterworkshop.
