Same same but different?

Quite a few of us have had a break during summer. A time with fewer stimuli and impressions, less important decisions to make (except from what ice cream to choose) and more time outdoors. No, I don’t say everyone have been sleeping in tents and enjoying the mountains but walking bare feet on grass and swimming in lakes and sea also counts. And we don't just need that as a break, we need a little more other that all year around to decrease stress and keep the course forward.

And this has made a shift in us, has it not? We now for a short time before autumn kicks in long to stay with the feelings we’ve had during summer and most important, the break made us decide to change a few things. (Same thing every autumn;)) I think almost all av you reading this have had that experience. And it’s not strange at all. Research on nature’s effect on us shows that when exposed to nature, we tend to make healthier, more sustainable decisions and we are more likely to take on a long-term perspective. After a lazy summer vacation perceived as having had a lower tempo and lower stress levels.

So it would be stupid not to use these facts when we sit down in our strategy meetings for q4 where we are forced to crush our budgets, and our one on ones setting way too ambitious individual targets for the coming planning period!

And I do the same, but I do it different! I do activities like these outdoors. I leave the conference rooms for others that still fancy stress and anxiety and running as fast as possible to the next low hanging fruits, no matter if that is in line with their vision or beliefs. Still difficult to see how we could add this to your business? Here are two examples coming up just the next month:

Next week, small design and marketing agency Bridget is with me at the end of a forestry road 40 minutes from their office, where an old Swedish homestead lies just next to a lake. We will do a workshop on team collaboration, and their target that day is to establish a clear view on what they need to do to become an even more efficient team and enjoy their jobs. We will make this measurable and follow up in the end of the year.

Mid-September, all employees at Monitor Larm & Bevakning and I go visit another forest, just 30 minutes from central Gothenburg to walk by the lakes there, talking and discussing their supporting processes and internal communication. The aim is that all employees set an individual development target to improve internal communication that we can measure and follow up through the performance management process we developed and implemented last year.

So if this is something you want to try – moving your planning and development activities to a place outdoors that trigger long term perspectives and sustainable decision making – but still comfortable and neat as an ordinary one day conference off site, please reach out! I still have room for a few more this autumn 😉

Heard of hell week?

Heard of hell week?

I just had a hell month. This autumn, September just flew by. I have never had so much to do, and I’m totally grateful for the opportunities presented to me by my clients and partners. It comes as the same time as a puppy enters my family (and office), my youngest son starts a new school and my wife starts a new job. And now, out on the other side where I’m grateful the light in the tunnel wasn’t a train, it got me thinking…

Reflections after Beyond Retreat in Fulufjället national Park 2021

Reflections after Beyond Retreat in Fulufjället national Park 2021

Busy is the new stupid. Those words flashed by on LinkedIn a while ago. And it stills seems legit. The last year has taught me the importance of unscheduled time. Not without direction. But with focus on my own inner direction. This autumn started with the possibility to come back to that inner direction in the best way possible. Together with Siri Wikander and Niklas Lindhardt, I brought 10 leaders from different businesses to Fulufjället national Park for Beyond Retreat. And these are my key takeways from this cocreated journey.

Do you want to punch me in the face?

The topic might be set due to that I’m just now reading the book Våldet (The violence) by Musse Hasselvall and Robert Svensson :). So, punching might of course be equal to give me feedback and share some thoughts.

Recruiting a Science & Technical Advisor to IPEN

I get really warm inside every time a former client comes back with a new project. This was really the case when I was contacted by Maria Ekström at IPEN about some recruitment support. Together we have got deep into the IPEN’s needs in a growth process that implies a transition into a new organization and adding needed competence to the organization.

My take on Agile – And why it doesn’t work!

My take on Agile – And why it doesn’t work!

I really thought I had seen the light, but while using agile frameworks I started to realize lots of companies just use agile to patch broken things and treat symptoms – and not the organizational disease they are suffering from. I reevaluated agile, and here is my take on the needs of modern management and HR.
